My brave Vermont quest to bring together food-love and mom-life.

applepicking-016-600pxlI’m a Vermont mom who’s focused on feeding my kids great food that’s as affordable, local, healthy and delicious as possible.

Our lives are wacky and our house is messy these days.  Our days are packed and sometimes awfully hard … but they are rich and full and often very, very funny.

I work in fund raising and marketing, with long-time experience in the food and non-profit communities.  I’ve been lucky to work on some great projects since leaving my last full-time gig:

But this blog is primarily about the intersection of family and food of all sorts.  In my cooking, as in much of my life, I would submit that curiosity and enthusiasm carry me farther than technical proficiency; I like to think that any knife skills, etc. I lack are compensated for by my love for good eats.  A good meal for me is not only (at least somewhat) nutritious, but also delicious, interesting, and treats its ingredients with the respect and tenderness that good foods deserve.  If there’s an associated story or history, so much the better.  That all describes my parenting philosophy pretty well too.

I can’t imagine a more perfect summer meal than a sandwich of Gerard’s sourdough bread, Doe’s Leap chevre, and sliced tomatoes and lettuce from Burlington’s Intervale.  Winter means braises and baking and roasting all sorts of good things, and reliving summer’s preserved bounty.

Of course, what really makes food taste great is who it’s prepared for and eaten with.   What could be better than a really good meal made with love, and consumed with laughter and warmth and affection (and a glass or two of good wine)?

Thanks for stopping by.  Let’s eat.
