First CSA Pick-Up of the Summer

Waiting for the farmers to be ready for the onslaught.

Start of season = many greens.

Our beloved Gerard’s bread.

And equally loved Does Leap.

I love this arbor.  Two years ago the field just beyond it was where the pick-your-own herbs grew.  Last year it hosted strawberries, and this year it’s the flower field.

Beautiful flowers.

Not a ton of food or variety at the start of the season, but still so lovely to return.  Many recipes to come.

  • Each year I’m torn between shopping at the Burlington Farmers Market (located virtually across the street from my house) and a CSA, which would force me out of my culinary comfort zone (or turn my crisper into a swamp of rotting vegetables). I can’t wait to read about what you do with yours!

  • Thanks! I miss the Farmer’s Market when CSA season starts, so I do allow myself some visits … though I have to stop myself from buying any cheese, bread, vegetables, flowers or berries since we’re already getting those. Rotting crisper prevention around here = blanch & freeze or roast & freeze. And occasional disgusting trips to the compost pile.
